Nutrition can be unevenly distributed without awareness, potentially leading to instances of undernutrition in this age of plenty. There appears to be a trend toward consuming only favorite foods or lacking essential nutrients like proteins, particularly among elderly individuals living alone.

While it is frequently advised to diversify food intake with the aim of reaching "30 different items per day," achieving this can be challenging.

During such periods, a method was observed and shared on the Japanese TV program Gatten, aired by NHK. This approach emphasizes focusing on ten food groups, excluding staple and luxury foods and concentrating on main and side dishes. Impressed by this strategy, the app was created.

The five essential food groups for protein are meat, fish, eggs, soybeans, and milk. Additionally, five other food groups—oil, green and yellow vegetables, seaweed, potatoes, and fruits—are necessary for aiding efficient protein function.

The concept is straightforward: merely mark the ten food groups consumed each day, irrespective of quantity. Aim to consume 7 or more food groups daily, with the ideal target being 9 or more.

To facilitate assessment, a color-coded system is employed: 6 or fewer marked food groups are red, 7 to 9 are green, and marking all ten earns a golden mark (referred to as Hanamaru in Japanese).

A weekly list is generated from Sundays toward Mondays, allowing for reflection on the past week's consumption. By following this routine daily post-meals or at the end of each day, an individual can naturally grasp their dietary balance.

The horizontal axis's total (evaluation) categorizes as follows: 6 or fewer food groups marked are red, 7 to 9 are green, and full marks result in a golden Hanamaru. The vertical axis's total follows a similar system but with a threshold of 70%: 4 or fewer are red, 5 to 6 are green, and scoring all seven categories garners a golden Hanamaru.

About one in every three to four individuals over the age of 70 is at risk of malnutrition, which can lead to increased health issues and care needs. Let us promote healthy living among our elder relatives for a joyful and vibrant life for everyone.

It is important to note that if someone is undergoing medical treatment or has specific dietary needs due to allergies or digestive issues related to certain food groups; seeking advice from a healthcare professional is recommended.

The symbols and titles used for eggs, milk, oil, fish, soybean, potato, and seaweed represent their respective food categories.
